Over sixty-five prehistoric and historic sites have been recorded in the North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office's statewide inventory as of December 1999.
Federal grant funds of $1,525 were awarded for a archaeological reconnaissance survey of the county. State grants totaling $72,000 have aided such projects as the Camden County Courthouse and Jail.
NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES
The county has seven listings in the National Register of Historic Places, including the Camden County Courthouse and Jail and the Dismal Swamp Canal.
The Historic Preservation Office reviewed and provided restoration technical services for the Lamb-Ferebee House, an income-producing tax credit project in Camden, which has been completed with a construction investment of $61,500.
PUBLIC EDUCATION AND PUBLICATIONS
The Historic Preservation Office has provided technical assistance for the Camden County Jail and Courthouse and for the dendrochronology study at Milford (Rolfe-Green-Sawyer House). In 1992, the Historic Preservation Office recorded the Jones Slave House, including measured drawings.
