The North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office statewide inventory contains information on over 100 prehistoric and historic archaeological sites in Jones County.
A comprehensive survey of Jones County was conducted 1996-1999. Surveys are cooperative local-state projects accomplished with grants and staff assistance from the Historic Preservation Office.
A 1994 state grant of $40,000 was earmarked for restoration of the Pollocksville Railroad Depot. A 1995 state grant of $12,000 and 1996 and 1997 federal grants totaling $14,000 supported an inventory of architectural resources in the county.
NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES
Eight National Register listings in Jones County include a historic district in Trenton, Grace Church, and five plantation houses.
The Historic Preservation Office has provided assistance to numerous historic properties, including the Foscue Plantation, Grace Church, the Bryan-Bell Farm, the McDaniel Plantation, and the Pollocksville Depot.
