Please note: Due to the backlog of National Register first draft nominations waiting to be reviewed, first draft packet submittal deadlines have been suspended. Applicants should submit the first draft as soon as it is completed. We will acknowledge its receipt, and let the applicant know the estimated review schedule, which depends upon the size of the backlog.

Many North Carolina  communities and counties have active local historic preservation commissions which have been approved by the National Park Service as Certified Local Governments (CLG).  The commission has the responsibility of reviewing new National Register nominations for properties within their jurisdiction, and the final draft deadline allows time for this review prior to the National Register Advisory Committee meeting.
